Political Career
2012 Palermo Municipal Council ElectionsDi Vita ran for Palermo Municipal Council in 2012 as a candidate for the Five Star Movement (M5S). She received 228 votes but was not elected.
2013 Parliamentary Elections
In the 2013 parliamentary elections, Di Vita was elected to the Chamber of Deputies as a member of the M5S from the Sicily 1 constituency. She became a member of the XII Commission (Social Affairs) on May 7, 2013.
Investigation and Suspension
In November 2016, the Palermo prosecutor's office launched an investigation into alleged forged signatures supporting M5S candidates in the 2012 elections. As a result, on November 29, the court temporarily suspended the activities of all M5S deputies.
Departure from M5S
On April 14, 2017, M5S leader Beppe Grillo announced that he would request the court to impose further sanctions on the movement and to initiate procedures to suspend the party's deputies in the Chamber of Deputies. On April 18, 2017, Giulia Di Vita and Riccardo Nuti left the M5S and joined the Mixed Group in the Chamber of Deputies. They did not align with any faction within the Mixed Group.
