Early Life and Education

Nathalie Loiseau, born Nathalie Ducoulombier, is a French career diplomat and politician. She graduated from the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) and the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO), where she studied Chinese.

Diplomatic Career

Loiseau began her diplomatic career in 1986 with the Information and Press Department of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1993 to 1995, she served as an advisor to Foreign Minister Alain Juppé. In the following years, she held positions at French embassies in Indonesia, Senegal, Morocco, and the United States.

Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs

In 2012, Loiseau became the director of the National School of Administration. She prioritized diversifying the school's student body, increasing the proportion of female students to 45% by 2014.

Political Career

On June 21, 2017, Loiseau was appointed Minister for European Affairs under Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian. She resigned from this post on March 27, 2019, to run in the European Parliament elections.

European Parliament

As the head of the "En Marche!"-MoDem coalition, Loiseau led her party to victory in the 2019 European Parliament elections. The coalition received 22.4% of votes, securing 23 of France's 74 seats.
