Biography of Giuliano Medici

Giuliano Medici was the second son of Piero Medici and his wife Lucrezia Tornabuoni. He was the co-ruler with his brother Lorenzo the Magnificent. Giuliano met a tragic end during the Pazzi Conspiracy, when he was assassinated during the Easter Mass at the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence on April 26, 1478. He was buried in the Medici Chapel of the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, next to his brother Lorenzo.

Illegitimate Son and Papal Successor

Giuliano had an illegitimate son named Giulio with Fioretta Gorini, who later became Pope Clement VII. Despite being born out of wedlock, Giulio rose to prominence within the Catholic Church and became one of the most influential popes of his time.

The Love of his Life

Another famous lover of Giuliano Medici was Simonetta Vespucci. Their love affair has been immortalized in various artworks, including the paintings by Sandro Botticelli. In the year of his death, an exhibition dedicated to the great love between Giuliano Medici and Simonetta Vespucci was held in Frankfurt, Germany, showcasing Botticelli's paintings.
