Early Life and Education

Giulio Santagata was born on October 1, 1949, in Zocca, Italy. He pursued higher education in economics and trade and subsequently worked in the regional administration of Emilia-Romagna, overseeing budget and planning.

Political Career

Santagata embarked on a political career by becoming a consultant for various state and private organizations. He gained prominence as an economic advisor to Romano Prodi, serving in his first government in 1996 and later at the European Commission.

Foundation of "Fabbrica del Programma"

In 2005, Santagata established the "Fabbrica del Programma" (Program Factory) in Bologna. This think tank contributed to the development of the "Unione" coalition's platform, which was officially presented in Rome in 2006.

Minister of Programmatic Implementation

Following the 2006 elections, Santagata was appointed Minister without Portfolio for Programmatic Implementation in Prodi's second government, a position he held from 2006 to 2008.

Later Political Activities

Santagata continued to be active in Italian politics, serving as a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 2001 to 2013. In 2017, he co-founded the "Insieme" (Together) movement, which joined forces with the Democratic Party in the 2018 elections.
