Early Life and Education

Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Kayleigh McEnany grew up in a family with strong ties to the Republican Party. Her father, Michael McEnany, owned a commercial roofing company while her mother, Lynn McEnany, worked as a flight attendant.

Kayleigh attended the Academy of the Holy Names, a Catholic school, before pursuing her undergraduate degree at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. She also studied abroad at St. Edmund Hall, part of Oxford University in the United Kingdom. During her time at Oxford, she was mentored by Nick Thomas-Symonds, a prominent British politician.

Career Beginnings

After graduating from Georgetown, McEnany landed a job as a producer for the "Huckabee" show on Fox News. Three years later, she enrolled at the University of Miami School of Law, eventually transferring to Harvard Law School and completing her degree in 2016.

CNN and Republican Party Involvement

While still in law school, McEnany worked as a reporter for CNN. In early 2015, she drew attention for her criticism of Donald Trump, calling him a "showman" and arguing that it would be "wrong" to associate him with the Republican Party. However, she later became a vocal supporter of his presidential campaign in 2016.

In August 2017, McEnany left CNN after reportedly receiving an offer from President Trump's team. She quickly became a surrogate for his administration, appearing on cable news shows and defending his policies. A few weeks later, she was appointed press secretary of the Republican National Committee.

White House Press Secretary

In April 2020, McEnany was appointed White House press secretary under Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. She replaced Stephanie Grisham, who became chief of staff to First Lady Melania Trump.

During her tenure, McEnany vigorously defended Trump's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite its devastating toll on the United States. She also repeatedly attacked Democrats for allegedly politicizing the virus.

In October 2020, McEnany tested positive for COVID-19 and went into quarantine. After Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, she continued to work as press secretary during the transition period.

Post-White House Career

Following the transfer of power to President Joe Biden, McEnany transitioned into conservative media. She became a Fox News contributor and co-hosted "Outnumbered Overtime" on the network.

Personal Life

In November 2017, McEnany married Sean Gilmartin, a Major League Baseball pitcher. The couple welcomed a daughter named Blake in 2019. In 2018, McEnany underwent a preventative double mastectomy after testing positive for a gene mutation that significantly increased her risk of breast cancer.
