Early Career and "Roma" Success

Giuseppe Giannini, an iconic Italian footballer known for his midfield prowess, began his career at the unassuming "Almas Roma" club. At 14, he had the pick of top teams, including "Lazio," "Roma," and "Milan." He ultimately chose "Roma" due to the allure of their jersey color.

Giannini's official debut for "Roma" came in 1982 against "Cesena," but it would be the only appearance of his debut season. Under the mentorship of the legendary Falcao, he became a regular starter from 1984-85, quickly earning the label of "Rising Star." He made his international debut for Italy in 1986 and enjoyed a successful season with "Roma" in 1987-88, scoring 11 league goals and reaching the UEFA Cup final.

International Career and European Success

Giannini's performances for "Roma" earned him a call-up to the Italian national team, where he enjoyed several major tournament appearances. He represented Italy at the 1986 European Championship (where they lost in penalties), the 1988 European Championship (reaching the semi-finals), and the 1990 World Cup (losing again in penalties in the semi-finals).

Despite his international success, Giannini remained loyal to "Roma" for 15 years, captaining the team and becoming a legend among the "Gialorossi" faithful. However, his departure was marked by controversy, as a dispute with club president Franco Sensi prompted his farewell match, after which he famously declared, "For these minutes, it was worth dedicating my life to 'Roma,' and I'm proud that I did."

Coaching Career

Giannini embarked on his coaching career in 2004, but his early attempts with "Foggia," "Sambenedettese," and "Arges" proved unsuccessful. He finally achieved his first coaching success in 2009 when he guided "Gallipoli" to promotion to Serie B. However, subsequent stints at "Hellas Verona" and "Grosseto" were short-lived and disappointing.

In 2013, Giannini took on the role of head coach of the Lebanese national team, which he held until 2015.
