Giuseppe Lanzone: An American Olympian with Peruvian Roots

Born on October 21, 1981, in La Punta, Peru, Giuseppe Lanzone is a member of the US National Rowing Team. Currently residing in Princeton, New Jersey, Lanzone is set to make his Olympic debut in Beijing.

The Making of an Olympian

Lanzone's rowing journey began at the early age of 12 when his father, a former rower, introduced him to the sport. After moving to the United States at age 15, Lanzone continued rowing in high school. He initially opted for football but was later recruited by his rowing coach. Within six months, he had secured a spot on the team.

Later, Lanzone went on to row for the University of Washington, where he won the men's eight Grand Final at the IRA Championships in 2003 and placed second in 2004. He graduated in 2005 with a degree in communications.

International Achievements

Lanzone has achieved significant success at the international level. In 2006, he won a gold medal as part of the US eight at the World Championships. He followed up with a bronze in the men's four at the 2008 World Championships in Lucerne.

Beijing 2008

Lanzone will represent the United States in the men's four at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This will be his first Olympic appearance, and he aims to make it a memorable one.

Beyond Beijing

After the Olympics, Lanzone plans to travel the world, including visiting Peru and Ecuador to connect with family and friends. He will then head to San Francisco and the Caribbean to pursue his passion for surfing. With his family's seafaring roots, Lanzone feels a strong connection to the ocean.
