The bag also held Chinese documents, including a passport, which made it easy to identify the owner. The owner, a Chinese student, chose to remain anonymous and avoid media attention. He expressed surprise and heartfelt gratitude to James and the police officers, retrieved his backpack, and disappeared from public view.
However, James' act continued to attract interest.
