Early Career and Draft
Francis's exceptional talent was recognized early on. In the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected in the first round, 3rd overall, by the Boston Bruins. His tenure with the Bruins was brief, as he was traded to the Hartford Whalers in 1994.
Hartford Whalers and Toronto Maple Leafs
With the Whalers, Francis established himself as a pivotal player. He spent several seasons in Hartford before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2003. His contributions to both teams solidifying his status as a defensive stalwart.
Carolina Hurricanes
