Childhood and Early Career
Born on August 10, 1992, in Seoul, South Korea, Ko Ah-sung grew up with two older sisters and began her career in entertainment at the tender age of five, starring in a commercial. She continued to model for various brands, including Lacoste, but later shifted her focus to acting, photography, and music.
Rise to Stardom in Acting
In 2002, Ko made her acting debut in the Seoul production of the musical "Peter Pan." She then landed a role in the children's television series "Oolla Boolla Blue-jjang" in 2004, portraying the Princess of Blue Rock. From that point forward, she became a regular face in South Korean television dramas.
Ko's feature film breakthrough came in 2006, when she was recommended for a role in Bong Joon-ho's "The Host" (also known as "Monster") by her co-star from a previous drama, Bae Doona. The film became a major critical and commercial success, showcasing Ko's exceptional talent and earning her several awards as "Best New Actress."
Collaboration with Bong Joon-ho
In 2013, Ko reunited with both Bong Joon-ho and Song Kang-ho for the post-apocalyptic action thriller "Snowpiercer." The film starred an ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer, and Tilda Swinton, and further cemented Ko's reputation as a gifted actress.
Music Career
Ko's musical endeavors began in 2010 when she recorded the soundtrack for the drama "Master of Study." Two years later, she landed her first leading role in the music-infused film "Duet," in which she sang and recorded four songs. In 2015, she performed live with other Korean celebrities.
Education and Personal Life
Ko holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the prestigious Sungkyunkwan University. She chose the field to enhance her skills as an actress and to better understand human behavior. Despite her acting commitments, she remained relatively unknown on campus until after her graduation in 2011.
Photography and Travel
Ko is an avid photographer, inspired by her friend and colleague Bae Doona. She has participated in joint photo exhibitions with other Korean actors. Additionally, she enjoys traveling, often embarking on solo trips.
Recent Projects
Ko continues to appear in films and television dramas, including the lead role in the detective series "Debt Collector," which premiered in January 2022. Despite initially strong viewer ratings, the series has experienced a decline in its second season.
