Missionary WorkIn 1853, Dr. Johannes Büttikofer embarked on a mission to the Gold Coast (present-day Ghana). Over the course of 15 years, he preached and immersed himself in the local cultures.
Linguistic Contributions
Dr. Büttikofer's passion for language led him to become an expert in West African linguistics. He played a pivotal role in translating the Bible into the Tshi (Chwi) language, which was published in Basel in 1871. His other linguistic works include:
