Academic and Professional Achievements

Dr. of Psychological Science, Professor. Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia. Head of the Department of General Psychology and Director of the Scientific Research Center of Psychology at the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology of Yerevan State University. Professor at the Department of Psychology of the Institute of Humanities at the Russian-Armenian University. Editor-in-chief of the scientific journal "Actual Psychology." Member of the editorial boards of the journals "Sport Psychologist," "Armenian Journal of Mental Health," "State and Municipal Administration," "Live Psychology," "Vestnik YSU," "World of Science. Pedagogics and Psychology," "Actual Problems of Psychological Knowledge," and "International Annual Edition of Applied Psychology: Theory, Research, and Practice." Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Psychological Sciences.

Education and Training

In 1978, graduated from the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture. From 1978-1983, studied at the graduate school of the Laboratory of Sports Psychology at the Central Scientific Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports. In 1985, he studied at the graduate school of the Institute of General and Educational Psychology of the USSR Academy of Pedagogical Sciences. Trained in professional development programs at the State Central Institute of Physical Culture (1987), AAASP, University of Illinois (1989), University of Utah (1997), University School of Physical Education in Poznan, Poland (2002), and University of Avignon, France (2012).

Academic Career

In 1985, defended his PhD dissertation on "Psychological Factors of the Effectiveness of Athletes' Performance in Individual and Team Competitions: Based on Materials of Fencing." In 2004, defended his doctoral dissertation on "Psychological Patterns of Mechanisms of Human Performance in Stressful Conditions of Activity." From 1983-2004, worked at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture as a research associate (1983-1990), head of the laboratory of physical education and sports science (1994-2001), head of the department of the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy (1990-2003), and vice-rector for scientific work (2003-2004).

Since 2004, has been working at Yerevan State University as a professor in the Faculty of Psychology (2004-2005), head of the laboratory of experimental psychology (since 2004), head of the department of theory and history of psychology (2006-2009), head of the department of general psychology (since 2009), and director of the scientific research center of psychology (since 2022).

Professional Affiliations and Honors

From 1987-1991, was a member of the presidium of the USSR Federation of Sports Psychology. From 1988-2003, was the chairman of the Federation of Sport Psychologists of the Republic of Armenia. From 1989-2005, was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Applied Sports Psychology (49th Division of American Psychology Association). From 1991-2002, was a member of the International Association of Stress and Anxiety Research (STAR). From 1997-2008, was a member of the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe. From 2011-2014, was the president of the Armenian Scientific Association of Psychologists. Since 2019, has been a member of the Association for Psychological Science in Washington D.C. and an advisor to Psi Chi YSU Armenia (Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology).

Research and Publications

Has authored numerous scientific articles, monographs, and textbooks in the fields of sports psychology, psychology of performance, and general psychology. Holds two patents for inventions.
