Early Life and EducationFranz Xaver Kрек, an Austrian philologist specializing in Slavic languages and folklore, was born into a Slovene peasant family. He graduated from the University of Graz in 1864 and became a professor of Slavic philology there. In his youth, he wrote poetry in the Slovene language.
