Early Life and Education
Born on January 7, 1960, in Riga, Latvia, to actors Tālivaldis Āboliņš and Vera Singayevskaya, Viesturs Āboliņš's family was steeped in the arts. His brother, Māris Āboliņš, is a renowned musician.
Āboliņš attended the 6th Riga Secondary School (1978), the People's Film Actors' Studio (1976-1978), the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian State Conservatory's theater faculty (1982), and earned a Master's in sociology from the University of Latvia's Faculty of Economics and Management (2002).
Theatrical Career
Āboliņš began his acting career at the Youth Theater (1982-1988) and the Dailes Theater. He eventually joined the ensemble of the New Riga Theater. Known for his improvisational talent, physicality, and comedic timing, he has been a highlight in musical and parody productions, as well as variety concerts.
In a popular musical-dramatic program featuring the poetry of Gottfried Herder and music by Ernests Igenbergs, the entire Āboliņš family, including his parents and sons, took part.
Āboliņš's portrayal of Sonya in Alvis Hermanis' production of Tatyana Tolstaya's "Sonya" earned him the award for "Best Actor of the Year." The same role brought him accolades at theater festivals in Poland and Croatia.
Film Career
Āboliņš's film debut came as a teenager in Ivars Kraulītis' "Sails" (1977). He starred alongside his father in Jānis Streičs' "White Nights Limousine" (1981).
Personal and Professional Affiliations
Since 1986, Āboliņš has been a member of the Latvian Society of Theater Artists.
