Biography of Sondra Locke
Sondra Locke is an American actress and film director, best known for her leading roles in films with Clint Eastwood. She made her debut in 1968 in the drama "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter", starring Alan Arkin, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Sondra Locke was born on March 28, 1947, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, USA. In 1965, she became a high school graduate and was chosen to give the farewell speech on the day of the university degrees awarding ceremony at Shelbyville Central High School. She enrolled in Middle Tennessee State University, but dropped out after a year to pursue an acting career. Sondra moved to Hollywood and won a nationwide talent search for the role of Mick in the film "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter".
Relationship with Clint Eastwood
In 1986, Locke married Gordon Anderson, a sculptor who had been her best friend since elementary school. Anderson was a homosexual, but had not publicly come out until 1997 when Clint Eastwood revealed this fact in one of his interviews. Locke stated that she had never had an intimate relationship with her husband and knew that he was gay when she married him. When Locke's romantic relationship with Eastwood was just beginning, Anderson had already started living with another man. However, Locke and Anderson remain close friends and are still legally married. Locke played leading roles alongside Clint Eastwood in six films: "Josie Wales - The Outlaw", "Every Which Way But Loose", "Bronco Billy", "Sudden Impact", "Any Which Way You Can", and "The Gauntlet". They lived together for 14 years. In her biography, "The Good, the Bad, and the Very Ugly," Locke included a narrative of the painful years she spent with Eastwood.
Legal Battles and Career
When their relationship ended in 1989, Locke demanded alimony using the letter of the law, which is paid even if partners were not legally married. She insisted on a sum of $1.3 million. Locke claimed that her former lover changed the locks on the house and took possession of all her belongings. She also alleged that Eastwood forced her to have two abortions and undergo tubal ligation. Eastwood categorically denied all these allegations. In 1990, they agreed to a confidential meeting to reach some settlement. In 1996, they met again, this time in court. Locke hired a famous entertainment industry lawyer, Neil Papiano, and filed another lawsuit, this time against Warner Bros. She claimed that the company had presented her with a fake contract and had no intention of producing her films or giving her directing authority because Clint Eastwood had bought the real contract from them. In 1999, they left the courtroom, resolving their disputes, and the details of the resolution were never publicly disclosed.
Acting and Directing Career
Locke appeared in several TV series, including "The FBI," "Planet of the Apes," "Night Gallery," "Cannon," "Kung Fu," and "Barnaby Jones." She also appeared in films such as "Cover Me Babe," "Willard," "A Reflection of Fear," "Gondola," "Second Coming of Suzanne," "Shadow of Chikara," "Death Game," "Friendships, Secrets and Lies," "Tales of the Unexpected," "Rosie: The Rosemary Clooney Story," "Clean Money," and "The Prophet's Game." As a director, Sondra directed four films: "Impulse," "Death in Small Doses," "Ratboy" (in which she also played the role of Nikki Morrison), and "Without Warning."
Battle with Cancer and Current Life
In 1990, Locke was diagnosed with breast cancer. However, she fought the disease with all her heart and soul, as well as with the support of a few friends who maintained close relationships with her. She is very grateful to her friends, considering them a "gift from God." Currently, the actress is cancer-free. Recently, Locke sold her home in Los Angeles for a significant amount of money. She bought a luxurious residence in Hollywood Hills, where she now lives with her companion of the past 12 years, Scott Cunneen, the co-director of the Weight Loss Center at Cedars Sinai Hospital.
