Biography of Hafthor Bjornsson

Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, an Icelandic strongman and actor, is a multiple-time finalist in the World's Strongest Man competition. He was born on November 26th, 1988 in Reykjavik, Iceland. Hafthor comes from a family known for their impressive height, with his father standing at 203 cm and his grandfather at 207 cm.

Early Life and Education

Hafthor attended Breiðholt College and began his professional sports career in 2006 as a basketball player. He played as a center for Icelandic clubs "K.R. Basket Reykjavík" (2006-2007) and "FSu Selfoss basketball" (2007-2008). However, a knee injury in 2008 forced him to leave basketball and pursue a career in strength sports.

Hafthor quickly established himself as one of Iceland's strongest men, winning the title three times in 2010, 2011, and 2012. In August 2013, he was cast as Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane in the fourth season of the television series "Game of Thrones." In 2015, Bjornsson sparred with Conor McGregor, a renowned mixed martial artist. On January 31st, 2015, he broke a thousand-year-old record at the "World's Strongest Viking" competition in Norway by carrying a 650-kilogram, 10-meter-long log forward for five steps. The previous record had been set in the early 10th century by Icelandic Viking Orm Storolfsson, who carried a similarly weighted ship mast for three steps before injuring his back.
