Halima Aden: A Pioneering Somali-American Model
Early Life and MigrationHalima Aden was born on September 19, 1997, in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya to Somali parents. Six years later, her family relocated to the United States, settling in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Miss Minnesota USA and Modeling Debut
In 2016, Aden made national headlines by participating in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant, becoming the first contestant to wear a burkini and hijab. The following year, she signed a three-year contract with IMG Models.

International Catwalk and Magazine CoversIn February 2017, Aden made her New York Fashion Week debut. Later that year, she served as a preliminary judge and broadcast commentator for the Miss USA pageant. She has since worked with designers such as Max Mara and Alberta Ferretti, gracing fashion weeks in Milan and London Modest Fashion. Aden has also posed for American Eagle, Glamour, and appeared on the cover of Carine Roitfeld's CR Fashion Book.
