Early Life and Modeling Career
Sylvia Meijs, a Dutch model, actress, and television presenter, was born on September 18, 1988. At the age of 18, she decided to pursue modeling and sent her portfolio to various agencies. She soon rose to prominence after landing a hosting role on the children's channel FoxKids and the music channel TMF.
Hosting Success at TMF
Meijs became a popular face at TMF, hosting several shows, including the annual TMF Awards. She also interviewed international pop stars such as Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue. Her presence in music videos and the Dutch television series "Costa" further expanded her reach.
Collaboration and Jewelry Line
Collaborating with the company JPC, Meijs launched her own jewelry line called "Sylvia's Pure Path" in the Netherlands. She also participated in the FIFA World Player of the Year Awards in 2008.
Relationship with Rafael van der Vaart
In 2003, Meijs began a relationship with Ajax footballer Rafael van der Vaart. Their respective fame made them one of the most prominent "soccer couples" in the Netherlands. Meijs and Van der Vaart moved to Germany when he left Ajax to play for Hamburger SV. They later relocated to Spain in 2008 after his transfer to Real Madrid. On May 28, 2006, they welcomed their first child, Damián Rafael. In 2009, Meijs successfully underwent surgery and chemotherapy for breast cancer.
