Hamza Mendyl is a Moroccan professional footballer of Ivorian descent who currently plays as a defender for Ligue 1 club Lille and the Morocco national team.
Early Life and Career
Mendyl began his football journey at the prestigious Mohamed VI Football Academy in his native Morocco. In 2016, he joined the youth academy of French club Lille.
Lille Debut
On February 18, 2017, Mendyl made his competitive debut for Lille in Ligue 1 against Caen. He came on as a second-half substitute for Eric Bautheac.
International Debut
Mendyl made his international debut for Morocco on September 4, 2016, in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against São Tomé and Príncipe.
Africa Cup of Nations
In 2017, Mendyl was part of the Morocco squad that participated in the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. He played in matches against Togo, Ivory Coast, Egypt, and DR Congo.
