Early Life and Career

Born in Methil, Fife, Scotland, on October 22, 1938, Alan Gilzean began his footballing career with local club Buckhaven Athletic. In 1957, he transferred to Dundee United, where he made an immediate impact as a prolific goalscorer.

Dundee United Years

With Dundee, Gilzean enjoyed immense success. He played a pivotal role in the club's 1962 Scottish league title victory and their run to the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1964. His exceptional performances earned him international recognition.

Tottenham Hotspur

In 1964, Gilzean joined English giants Tottenham Hotspur. He quickly established himself as a key figure in the team's golden era. During his decade-long spell with the "Spurs," he won the FA Cup in 1967, the League Cup twice, and the UEFA Cup in 1973.

International Career

Gilzean represented Scotland at international level from 1963 to 1971. He made 22 appearances for the national team, scoring 12 goals. His most memorable performance came in a World Cup qualifying match against Italy in 1965, where he scored a hat-trick.
