Birth and Education
Born in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, South Korea, Han obtained his bachelor's degree in economics from Seoul National University. He subsequently pursued postgraduate studies at Harvard University in the United States, earning both a master's and a doctoral degree.
Academic and Ministerial Career
Han emerged as a prominent economic expert within the South Korean government. From 2005 to 2006, he served as the Minister of Finance and Economy with the rank of Senior Vice Prime Minister. His expertise in economic policy and experience in key ministerial roles earned him a reputation for reliability.
Appointment as Prime Minister
In his early 50s, Han Dok-soo was appointed as the Prime Minister of South Korea. Prior to this, he held the position of Presidential Secretary for Free Trade Agreements. His successful negotiation of trade agreements with various countries, particularly the United States, was seen as a major economic achievement.
