Hannah New: A Versatile Actress Embracing Adventure and Art
Early Life and EducationHannah New was born on May 13, 1984, in London, the youngest of three daughters. Growing up with a passion for the arts, she started ballet lessons at the tender age of four. At 19, she joined the National Youth Theatre and, after working with young actors in underprivileged areas worldwide, discovered her calling in acting.
With her mother's guidance to pursue a degree and learn languages to expand her employment opportunities, New embraced international experiences. By 2003, she had visited over 20 countries and volunteered in orphanages in Bolivia.
Returning to the UK, she enrolled at the University of Leeds, studying English and Spanish while performing in numerous plays in both languages. Graduating with First Class Honors, she moved to Spain to immerse herself in the language and study under renowned acting teachers Sanford Meisner and Frank Fowle.
Modeling and Education
To finance her studies in Madrid and Barcelona, New signed with the renowned modeling agency View Management, entering the fashion industry. She later pursued a postgraduate degree at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, graduating with distinction in December 2011.
Film Career
New's acting career was launched thanks to American talent manager Stacy Castro, who spotted her in Barcelona in 2009. The following year, she landed her first role in "Threads of Destiny," an adaptation of Maria Dueñas' bestselling novel. Playing the young Englishwoman Rosalind Fox, she balanced her studies with filming.
Her first American project was the unaired TV series "Shelter," produced by J.J. Abrams. Her breakthrough came in 2014 with "Black Sails," which earned her widespread recognition and acclaim. It was followed by "Maleficent," where she shared the screen with Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning.
