Early Life and Military Career

Lieutenant General was a German officer who fought in both World Wars. He began his military service in June 1915 as a volunteer in a cavalry regiment. By April 1917, he had risen to the rank of non-commissioned officer, and by October 1917, he had earned the rank of reserve lieutenant. He was awarded the Iron Crosses of both degrees during this period.

Interwar Period

In May 1920, Lieutenant General was discharged from the military. He joined the police in October 1920, serving as a lieutenant. In August 1935, he returned to the army as a cavalry squadron commander, holding the rank of captain. By the outbreak of World War II, he was a major and commander of a reconnaissance battalion in the 11th Infantry Division.

World War II

Lieutenant General participated in the invasions of Poland and France, and was awarded additional Iron Crosses. From June 22, 1941, he fought on the Eastern Front, where he received the German Gold Cross. In May 1942, he was awarded the Knight's Cross.

Rise to Prominence

In August 1943, Lieutenant General became commander of the 19th Panzer Division, and in November 1943, he was promoted to major general. In February 1944, he was awarded the Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross for his actions in the Battle of Zhitomir. In June 1944, he was promoted to lieutenant general. He was awarded the Swords to the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves for his battles in Western Ukraine and Warsaw.

Command and Death

In March 1945, Lieutenant General took command of the 24th Panzer Corps. He was killed in action on the front lines in Czechoslovakia on April 18, 1945.
