Nicolae Cambrea
Early Life and Military CareerNicolae Cambrea was a Romanian general who served during World War II. In 1942, he held the rank of Colonel and commanded the headquarters of the Romanian 5th Division. However, later that year, he was captured by Soviet forces.
Command of the 1st Romanian Volunteer Infantry Division
On October 4, 1943, the State Defense Committee approved the formation of the 1st Romanian Volunteer Infantry Division "Tudor Vladimirescu." On November 15, Nicolae Cambrea was appointed its commander, a position he held until October 1, 1944.
Post-War Roles
After the war, Cambrea served as First Deputy Chief of the Romanian Army General Staff from 1945 to 1947. Subsequently, he held the positions of Deputy Commander of the 2nd Military District (1947-48) and Head of the Armed Forces Instructor Center (1948-49). In 1949, he was appointed Commander of the 3rd Military District, but was retired in 1950.
Honors and Legacy
On November 11, 1946, Nicolae Cambrea was awarded the Order of Michael the Brave, 3rd Class with Swords for his service. His military career is remembered as a significant contribution to Romanian history during the Second World War and its aftermath.
