Biography of Harry Lloyd
English ActorHarry Lloyd, an English actor and a distant descendant of Charles Dickens, decided not to follow in his famous ancestor's footsteps and did not pursue a career in writing. However, Lloyd has come across Dickens' works many times in his life and has played various roles in adaptations of his famous ancestor's works. But Lloyd's repertoire is not limited to Dickens adaptations; he has also appeared in several popular television series.
Early Life and Family
Harry Lloyd was born in London and is known to be a great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens. He is related to Dickens through his mother's side, Marion Dickens, who is the daughter of Captain Peter Dickens. Lloyd's father, Jonathan Lloyd, also has a direct connection to literature as a former head of his own literary agency.
Education and Acting Career
Lloyd attended Eton College, where he made his television debut as James Steerforth in an adaptation of "David Copperfield." He later continued his education at Christ Church, Oxford, studying English language and honing his acting skills in the university's theatre society. During his time at Oxford, Lloyd worked on productions such as "The Comedy of Errors" and "Kiss of the Spider Woman." In the summer of 2005, he toured Japan with a theatrical troupe performing "The Comedy of Errors."
Lloyd graduated from Oxford in 2005 with a second-class honors degree. In 2007, he made his stage debut at Trafalgar Studios in the production "A Gaggle of Saints," which was part of the acclaimed Neil LaBute's play "Bash."
Television and Film Career
Shortly after his stage debut, Lloyd landed a role in the popular science fiction series "Doctor Who," playing Jeremy Baines, a schoolboy unwittingly possessed by an alien entity. His performance was well-received by fans, leading to speculation about his potential return to the series as a main character after David Tennant's departure.
In 2011, Lloyd secured one of the main roles in the first season of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones," playing Viserys Targaryen. Although his character met an early demise, Lloyd left a lasting impression on fans. He went on to appear in several other television series, including "Taking the Flak" and "The Great Expectations," as well as films such as "Jane Eyre" and "The Iron Lady."
In 2012, Lloyd played a key role as the son of a gangster in the Channel 4 project "The Fear." He was also cast in the lead role of the feature film "Closer to the Moon," set for release in 2013, marking his first major and important role.
