Early Career

Haruka Kitaguchi(北口 榛花), a Japanese javelin thrower, was born on March 16, 1998, in Asahikawa, Hokkaido. She first made a name for herself internationally in 2015 when she won a gold medal at the World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Junior and University Years

2016:

Kitaguchi finished eighth at the World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with a throw of 52.15 meters.

2017:

Representing Nihon University at the Universiade in Taipei, she ranked tenth with a throw of 56.30 meters.

National Success and Universiade Medal

2019:

Kitaguchi emerged as Japan's champion at the National Championships in Fukuoka.

She won a silver medal at the Universiade in Naples, Italy, with a throw of 60.15 meters, behind Liudvika Jasiunaite of Lithuania.

World Championships and National Record

2019:

Despite a throw of 60.84 meters at the World Championships in Doha, Kitaguchi failed to advance past the preliminary qualifying stage.

At the KitaKyushu Athletics Carnival, she set the current Japanese national record in javelin throw with a distance of 66.00 meters.

Olympic Dreams and Pandemic Challenges

2020:
Kitaguchi joined the Japan Airlines athletics club.

She won a silver medal at the National Championships in Niigata with a throw of 59.30 meters, second only to Yuka Sato.

Meeting the Olympic qualifying standard (64.00 meters), she secured her spot at the Tokyo Olympics.

World Championship Title

2023:

At the World Championships in Budapest, Kitaguchi became the champion with a throw of 66.73 meters, marking a significant achievement in her career.
