Biography of Harvey Miguel Robinson
Harvey Miguel Robinson, born on December 6, 1974, in Montana, is one of the youngest serial killers in American history. He gained notoriety as the first serial killer in Allentown, Pennsylvania. At the age of only 18, Robinson was arrested for his heinous crimes and is currently serving time on death row in Pennsylvania.
The Crimes
Robinson's horrific crimes involved the rape and murder of three women. His first victim was 29-year-old nurse Joan Burghardt, whom he killed in August 1992. In June 1993, he targeted 15-year-old newspaper delivery girl Charlotte Schmoyer. Just a month later, in July 1993, Robinson brutally murdered 47-year-old Jessica Jean Fortney. He also attempted to assault and kill Denise Sam-Cali, his fourth victim, but she managed to escape.
The Capture
Robinson's reign of terror came to an end when he was apprehended by a police officer. During his attempt to harm his fifth victim, a five-year-old girl, Robinson was interrupted by the girl's mother and her boyfriend. He had initially planned to assault and possibly kill the girl's mother but changed his mind and left the room. Robinson then entered the room where the five-year-old was, sexually assaulted and choked her, and left her to die. However, the mother managed to alert a police officer who was present in the house, and Robinson was shot by the officer before being arrested.
Legal Proceedings
In November 1994, Robinson stood trial for his crimes. The evidence against him, including DNA evidence, linked him to the murders. He was found guilty and sentenced to death for all three cases. As of 2006, his death sentence has not been carried out.
Additional Suspected Crime
Robinson was also suspected of attempting to kill Leslie Gerhart in 1990 when she was just 13 years old. Leslie and her friend were spending the evening together at Leslie's house when Robinson broke in through a bedroom window using a brick. He struck Leslie with the brick but was frightened off when her friend started screaming. Leslie survived the attack with a fractured skull and a broken arm. It is believed that Leslie may have been Robinson's first victim, although he was never charged with attempted murder in this case.
Media Coverage
The story of Robinson's crimes was depicted in the 1996 film "No One Could Protect Her," with actress Joanna Kerns portraying one of his victims, Jessica Reiner. The film shed light on the horrifying nature of his crimes and the impact they had on the victims' lives.
Despite being one of the most notorious serial killers in American history, Harvey Miguel Robinson's death sentence remains unexecuted, leaving him confined to his cell on death row.
