Biography of Heather Langenkamp
Heather Elizabeth Langenkamp was born on July 17, 1964, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is an American film and television actress best known for her role as Nancy Thompson in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series. Heather has a mix of German, English, and Scottish heritage.
Early Life and Career
After completing high school, Heather enrolled at Stanford University. It was during her time as a student at Stanford that she caught the attention of Wes Craven and was cast as Nancy in the film "A Nightmare on Elm Street." Wes Craven chose Heather because he wanted someone who looked "non-Hollywood" to play the protagonist against Freddy Krueger. Heather beat out over 200 competitors for the role, and her love interest in the film was played by then-unknown Johnny Depp, making it his film debut.
The first film in the series was incredibly successful, and in 1985, Heather received the Avoriaz Film Festival award for her role. She was also included in the list of classic "scream queens" - heroines of popular American horror films.
Continued Career
In 1987, Heather reprised her role as Nancy Thompson in the film "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors," alongside Patricia Arquette and Laurence Fishburne. She also appeared in the 1994 film "Wes Craven's New Nightmare," where she played herself. The film took place in the real world, and Heather had to confront the monster that once opposed her character. Some scenes in the film were based on real events, as Heather had previously dealt with an overly persistent fan.
Even though Heather continues to act, her main focus is on her entrepreneurial activities. She and her husband, David Leroy Anderson, run the special effects studio "AFX Studio." Heather also previously led a company called "The Malibu Gum Factory," which produced chewing gum sold with trading cards featuring local surfers, but unfortunately, the project was later closed.
Overall, Heather Langenkamp's portrayal of Nancy Thompson in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series established her as a prominent figure in the horror genre and she continues to be involved in the entertainment industry to this day.
