Biography of Heidi El Tabakh
Heidi El Tabakh, a Canadian professional tennis player, was born on September 25, 1986, in Alexandria, Egypt. She is the daughter of Medhat and Summer, and has a brother named Meedo. El Tabakh first picked up a racket at the age of nine.
Representing Egypt and Canada
She represented Egypt from 2002 to 2005 before switching to represent Canada. Currently, she resides in Toronto, Ontario.
Professional Career
El Tabakh turned professional in 2002 and achieved her highest WTA singles ranking at 146 on October 8, 2012. In doubles, she reached the 173rd position on February 8, 2010. One of the highlights of her career came in 2009 when she won a prestigious ITF tournament, the Valladolid $25,000 event in Spain.
Grand Slam Debut
In May 2010, El Tabakh earned the opportunity to compete in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the French Open. However, she was defeated in the first round by Aravane Rezaï with a score of 6–1, 6–1.
Challenger Triumphs
In April 2012, El Tabakh won her second ITF $25,000 tournament at the Challenger event in Jackson. In the final match, she defeated former world No. 14 Elena Bovina with a score of 6–0, 6–4. Just a week later, she won her third ITF $25,000 tournament in Pelham.
Playing Style and Preferences
El Tabakh's favorite shots on the court are her serve and forehand. She prefers playing on clay and hard court surfaces. Kelly Jones serves as her coach.
