Biography of Helen Reddy
Helen Reddy, an Australian actress, singer, and composer, was born on October 25, 1941, in Australia. She grew up in a family deeply immersed in the world of show business, with her mother being an actress and her father a well-known figure in the Australian entertainment industry.
From a young age, Helen showed a talent for the arts, and she attended a specialized school for girls. However, her path took a different turn when she got married and became a mother at a young age. Her husband, a musician seeking fame and recognition, felt restricted by the responsibilities of marriage and parenthood, leading to the dissolution of their marriage.
Despite the challenges of being a single mother, Helen never forgot her calling. She won several prestigious music competitions in Australia and, in 1966, decided to pursue her dreams in the United States. She moved to New York, where she met Jeff Wald, who became both her husband and agent within days of their acquaintance. After a few unsuccessful attempts to launch her career, they relocated to Los Angeles, where Helen signed her first major record deal.
In 1970, Helen Reddy began collaborating with Capitol Records and released her debut album, "I Don't Know How to Love Him." The album achieved gold status and found success not only in America but also in other countries around the world. Over time, Helen became one of the most popular performers of her time.
In 1972, she released the album "I Am Woman," which skyrocketed to the top of the charts, becoming a platinum record. This album included the iconic feminist anthem of the same name and solidified Helen Reddy's place in music history.
Throughout her career, Helen Reddy collaborated with Capitol Records on albums such as "Long Hard Climb," "Love Song for Jeffrey," "Free and Easy," "No Way to Treat a Lady," "Music, Music," "Ear Candy," "We'll Sing in the Sunshine," "Reddy," and "Take What You Find." In 1981, she began working with MCA, and in 1990, she established her own recording studio, where she recorded all her subsequent albums.
Some of Helen Reddy's most well-known songs include "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "I Am Woman," "Delta Dawn," "Crazy Love," "No Sad Song," "Keep on Singing," "Somewhere in the Night," "I Can't Hear You No More," "Music Is My Life," "You're My World," "Make Love to Me," "We'll Sing in the Sunshine," and "Candle on the Water."
