Henk Blomvliet, born on January 20, 1911, was a renowned Dutch footballer who left an indelible mark on the history of the Amsterdam-based club Ajax.

Ajax Career

At the tender age of 13, Blomvliet joined the ranks of Ajax, making his debut for the club on September 18, 1932, against DFC. Together with three other new players, he became an integral part of a rejuvenated Ajax team. Initially playing as a forward, he later transitioned to a defender. His versatility and ability to perform effectively in various positions saw him accumulate 149 appearances for Ajax, where he scored 42 goals. Blomvliet's Ajax career was abruptly halted by the outbreak of World War II, during which he served in Germany.

Post-War Return and Legacy

After the war, at the age of 34, Blomvliet returned to football, playing one season for Ajax in 1946/1947. His final match for the club came on June 21, 1947, against Blauw-Wit. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded honorary membership of Ajax's "Club van Verdienste" in 1953 on the occasion of the club's 50th anniversary.

International Career

Blomvliet's international career was brief but notable. He made his debut for the Netherlands national team on February 26, 1932, in a 3-2 victory over Hungary. His second and final appearance for the national team came on March 19, 1932, against Belgium, which ended in a 5-4 loss.

Accomplishments and Legacy

Throughout his career, Blomvliet played a pivotal role in Ajax's success, contributing to four Dutch championship titles in 1934, 1937, 1939, and 1947. His legacy as a versatile and accomplished player continues to inspire young footballers in the Netherlands.
