Euwe's Championship Title

Euwe's greatest achievement came in 1935 when he defeated reigning World Champion Alexander Alekhine in a thrilling 15-game match. This victory made Euwe the fifth World Champion in chess history and the first from outside Russia or Germany.

Euwe lost the title to Alekhine in a rematch in 1937 but continued to be a formidable opponent. He represented the Netherlands in several Chess Olympiads and remained a leading force in Dutch chess until his retirement in the 1950s.
