Biography of Hermann Heyde
Hermann Heyde was a German chess player, jurist, and journalist.Early Life and Education
Heyde was born in Berlin on January 19, 1790. He studied law and later worked as a lawyer in Berlin.
Chess Career
Heyde gained prominence in the chess world as a member of the Berlin Pleiades, a group of renowned chess players. He actively participated in the preparation of Peter von Bilguer's "Handbuch," a seminal work on chess theory.
Editor of "Deutsche Schachzeitung"
In 1851, following the passing of the previous editor, Ludwig von Bledow, Heyde became the editor of the renowned chess magazine "Deutsche Schachzeitung." Under his leadership, the magazine continued to play a significant role in the development and dissemination of chess knowledge.
Government Service
In 1848, Heyde was appointed as a government councilor in Magdeburg. He held this position until his retirement.
Family
Heyde's father was Georg Adam Ludwig Hanstein (1761-1821), a theologian and head of the Consistory. His cousin was Carl Mayet, another prominent chess player.
Death
Heyde passed away on February 13, 1866, in Berlin, where he had spent most of his life. He left behind a legacy as a distinguished chess player, editor, and contributor to the field of chess theory.
