Early Life and Career

Henry Charles Lahee, an American musicologist of British origin, was born to composer Henry Lahee. As a young boy, he sang in the prestigious St. Michael's College Choir. However, he later pursued a naval education and served from 1873 to 1878, traveling to India, Burma, Australia, the Philippines, and Mauritius. Eventually, he settled in the United States and established a business in Boston.

Return to Music

Over time, Lahee's passion for music rekindled. From 1891 to 1899, he served as Secretary of the New England Conservatory. Subsequently, he dedicated himself to research and writing in the field of music.

Lahee's contributions include a series of seminal reference works on the history of classical music:
