Biography of Henry Iba

Henry Iba was an American basketball and baseball coach. He served as the head coach of the Oklahoma State University basketball team from 1934 to 1970, leading them to two national championships. In addition to basketball, Iba also coached the baseball team at the university from 1934 to 1941, although without much success.

Iba also coached the United States men's basketball team at the 1964, 1968, and 1972 Olympic Games. His teams won gold medals twice, but in 1972, they controversially lost to the Soviet Union in the final match. Iba was the only coach in the history of basketball to have won two Olympic gold medals for the United States until Mike Krzyzewski accomplished the same feat in 2012.

In 1969, Iba was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and in 2007, he was honored in the FIBA Hall of Fame. The Henry Iba Coach of the Year Award, given annually to college team coaches, is named in his honor along with the Oscar Robertson Trophy. Additionally, the sports arena at Oklahoma State University is named after Iba.
