Herbert Agustsson: An Austrian-Icelandic Composer and Hornist

Early Life and Education

Herbert Agustsson, an Icelandic composer and hornist of Austrian descent, began his musical journey in Graz, Austria. Under the tutelage of composer and conductor Franz Mikša and Artur Michla, Agustsson pursued his studies in music.

Musical Career in Austria and Iceland

Upon graduating in 1944, Agustsson held the principal horn position in the Graz Symphony Orchestra for seven years. In 1952, he relocated to Iceland, where he played first horn with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for several years.

Leadership in Musical Education

From 1976 to 1985, Agustsson took on a leadership role as director of the music school in Keflavík. He actively supported young musicians and fostered their love for music.
