Biography of Herbert Albrecht

Dr. Herbert Albrecht was born on January 12, 1900, in Altenburg, Thuringia. He was Protestant and attended a secondary school with an emphasis on scientific subjects. In 1918, Albrecht was accepted as a cadet officer in the 93rd Infantry Regiment. The following year, he completed his final examination course in Halle and became part of the Freikorps Halle and Freikorps Anhalt.

In September 1919, Albrecht was assigned to the 49th Reichswehr Infantry Regiment as a cadet corporal. He was a member of the 'Reichshammerbund' and 'Deutsche-Völk. Schutz-und Trutzbundes' movements, with the former owing much to German political scientist Theodor Fritsch. Between 1919 and 1925, he worked as an agricultural laborer, apprentice, and civil servant in Holstein. Additionally, he studied in Berlin, Rostock, and Giessen.

In 1920, Albrecht assisted in the organization of the German Social Party in Berlin. From 1923 to 1925, he held various positions in the nationalist community in Charlottenburg, including squad leader, platoon leader, and standard-bearer. Albrecht obtained his doctoral degree in 1925 and served as an administrator in Vogtland from 1926 to 1927.

In 1926, Albrecht became a candidate for the Saxon Landtag, and on May 11 of the same year, he joined the NSDAP as member number 35,916. As a private individual in Altenburg, he actively participated in NSDAP activities in 1927, becoming one of the party's speakers and speechwriters. He also contributed to the Nazi newspaper 'Völkischer Beobachter' starting in 1924.

In July 1930, Albrecht was appointed Gauleiter of Mecklenburg-Lübeck and became a member of the Reichstag in Dresden-Bautzen in September. He voluntarily stepped down from the position of Gauleiter in 1931. From 1931 to 1932, Dr. Albrecht served as the chairman of the economic faction in the Reichstag and deputy chairman of the Committee of Supply. He was a member of the Economic Counselors for the Reich-Leadership society and became an assistant advisor to the Thuringia government in 1933. Albrecht also served as the special representative of the Thuringian government in Berlin and was a member of the 'Kleinen und Grossen Arbeitskonvents' of the German Labor Front and the Administrative Board of the Imperial Post in 1933.
