Biographical Sketch
Otto SkorzenyAdjutant and Artillery Officer
Otto Skorzeny joined the German army in August 1939 and served as an adjutant to the commander of the 205th Artillery Regiment within the 225th Infantry Division. He participated in combat operations in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France.
Staff Officer under Field Marshal von Kluge
In November 1940, Skorzeny became adjutant to Field Marshal von Kluge, the commander of the 4th Army. On June 22, 1941, he deployed to the Eastern Front.
Intelligence and Special Operations
From May 1943, Skorzeny served as the chief translator at an officer's school before joining the staff of the 15th Army in France and transferring to the intelligence department (Abteilung 1C).
Head of the SS Jagdferband Ost
In November 1944, Skorzeny was appointed head of the SS Jagdferband Ost-Gruppe B, a reconnaissance and sabotage school. He trained and dispatched agents into enemy territory.
Capture and Execution
On May 20, 1945, Skorzeny was arrested by SMERSH counterintelligence personnel in Czechoslovakia. After a trial, he was sentenced to death by the Special Council of the NKVD on December 1, 1945, and executed.
