Biography of Philip Davidson

Philip Davidson, an American military intelligence officer and historian of the Vietnam War, was born on November 26, 1915, in Hatchita, New Mexico. He pursued a career in the military and graduated from West Point in 1939. Davidson served in World War II, initially as the Assistant Chief of Intelligence for the 96th Infantry Division of the United States Army, and later commanded a squadron in the 3rd Army. After the war, he became an instructor at the Army Intelligence School in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. During the Korean War, Davidson held the position of Chief of Planning and Evaluations in General MacArthur's headquarters.

In the midst of the Vietnam War, from 1967 to 1969, Davidson served as the Chief of Army Intelligence for the United States in Vietnam. Following this, he commanded the Army Training Center in Fort Ord, California. From 1971 to 1972, Davidson was the Assistant Chief of Intelligence in the headquarters of the Department of the Army. He reached the rank of Lieutenant General before retiring from military service.

As an author, Davidson wrote the books "Vietnam at War: The History 1946—1975" (1988) and "Secrets of the Vietnam War" (1990). On February 7, 1996, he passed away in San Antonio, Texas.

In Russia, Davidson gained recognition for his book "Vietnam at War: The History 1946—1975," which was published in 2002 by the publishing houses "Izografus" and "Eksmo" under the title "War in Vietnam (1946—1975)."
