Brito: A Legend of Brazilian Football

Early Life and Career

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brito began his professional football career at the tender age of 16 with the legendary Vasco da Gama. He quickly established himself as one of the club's most promising defenders, spending 15 seasons at Vasco over the course of his illustrious career.

Vasco da Gama Years

During his time with Vasco, Brito cemented his status as one of the greatest defenders in the club's history. He captained the team for many years and led them to numerous triumphs, including four Rio de Janeiro State Championships, the Rio-São Paulo Tournament, and the Guanabara Cup.

International Glory

Brito's exceptional performances earned him a place in the Brazilian national team, for which he made 61 appearances. He represented Brazil at two FIFA World Cups, including the triumphant 1970 edition. In Mexico, Brito served as a defensive cornerstone, allowing the Brazilian attack to focus solely on offense.

Later Career and Retirement

After the World Cup, Brito moved to Flamengo but played only 11 games for the club. He subsequently represented several other Brazilian teams, including Cruzeiro, Botafogo, Corinthians, Atlético Paranaense, and Le Castor in Canada. Brito finally retired at the age of 40 while playing for River in Teresina.

Personal Life

Upon retirement, Brito settled in Guanabara. He has a son and three grandchildren.
