Herman Felchner was a renowned Austrian football player and coach who made a significant impact on the Italian football landscape.
Career as a Player
Felchner began his playing career with Wiener Sportklub in 1909, where he played as a defender until 1919. Known as Ermanno Felsner in Italy, he left for the country in 1920.
Coaching Achievements in Italy
In Italy, Felchner embarked on a successful coaching career, starting with Bologna in 1920. He led the club to two Serie A titles in 1925 and 1929, a second-place finish in 1926, and silver medals in 1927 and 1928.
After leaving Bologna in 1931, Felchner moved on to Fiorentina, where he finished fourth in his first season. However, the club's performance declined thereafter.
In 1933, Felchner joined Sampierdarenese in Serie B and guided the team to promotion in his first year. His coaching resume also includes a Serie A title with Genoa in 1936, an Italian Cup victory with the same club in 1937, and a third-place finish with AC Milan in 1939.
Return to Bologna and Post-War Career
Felchner returned to Bologna in 1939 and won two more Serie A titles, in 1939 and 1941. He also achieved a second-place finish in 1940.
After the war, Felchner served as Bologna's technical director and later coached Livorno for two seasons.
