Early Career

Marouane Chamakh is a Moroccan striker who began his professional career in 2000 with Raja Casablanca, a Moroccan Premier League club. He spent four years with Raja before a proposed transfer to Southampton in England fell through due to English Football Association rules requiring foreign players to have played 75% of their national team's matches in the past two years.

International Breakthrough

Chamakh made his international debut for Morocco in 2002 and went on to represent his country at the 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

European Stint

In 2005, Chamakh joined French club Lille on loan. He participated in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League before returning to Raja. In 2007, he signed with Tunisian club Espérance.

Middle Eastern Success

In 2008, Chamakh moved to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. He returned to Raja for the 2010/11 season before joining Qatari club Al-Ahli in 2011, where he remained until 2012.
