Olympic Debut and Breakthrough
After years of competing in the World Cup, Vinh debuted at the 2012 Olympics in London. He narrowly missed the final in the 10 m air pistol event, placing ninth. In the 50 m pistol event, he finished fourth, falling short of the bronze medal by just 0.1 points.

World Record Victories
Vinh achieved his first major victory in 2013 at a World Cup stage in Changwon, South Korea. He set a new world record in the final round and repeated the feat the following year with another victory.
Historic Olympic Triumph
In 2016 at the Rio Olympics, Vinh became Vietnam's first-ever Olympic champion in the 10 m air pistol event. He qualified fourth but surged to the lead in the final. In a nail-biting finish, he outscored Brazilian shooter Felipe Almeida Wu by 0.4 points with a 10.7 to Wu's 10.1.
