Coaching CareerBorussia Mönchengladbach
On May 18, 2005, the German footballer signed a contract as manager of Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, succeeding Dick Advocaat. After one season, he resigned on May 14, 2006, with the team finishing 10th in the league.
Al-Wahda
On August 5, 2006, he moved to the Middle East, signing with Saudi Arabian club Al-Wahda. However, after four matches (one win, three losses), he was dismissed on October 11, 2006.
FC Ingolstadt
Almost three years later, on April 26, 2009, he was appointed manager of German third-tier club FC Ingolstadt. He took over from former Bayern Munich player Thorsten Fink.
