Early Life and Royal Connections

Marie-Cornu was born in France as the goddaughter of Queen Hortense and a childhood companion of Napoleon III. Her close association with the royal family shaped her early years.

Literary Career

Under the pseudonym Sébastien Albin, Marie-Cornu established herself as a literary figure, specializing in articles on German literature. She published several works, including:

"Ballades et chants populaires anciens et modernes de l'Allemagne" (1841): A collection of German folk songs and ballads.

"Goethe et Bettina": An analysis of the relationship between Goethe and Bettina von Arnim.

"Essai sur l'histoire des arts en Italie": A study of Italian art history.

Marriage and Artistic Collaborations

In 1854, Marie-Cornu married the artist Alfred Cornu. Their collaboration extended beyond marriage: Cornu illustrated many of her literary works.
