Early Life and Education
Born in Gabrovo, Bulgaria in 1869, Vasil Burmov entered the Sofia Military School in 1889 and graduated in 1898. He further studied at the Turin Military Academy.
Military Career
Burmov served in various leadership positions within the Bulgarian Army. In 1904, he was appointed as military attaché to Austria-Hungary. Subsequently, he commanded infantry battalions and regiments.
Balkan Wars
During the Balkan Wars, Burmov served as Chief of Staff of an infantry division. Despite not supporting Bulgaria's entry into World War I in 1915, he actively participated in Bulgaria's military campaigns. Burmov's units played a crucial role in the victory at the Battle of Krivolak.
World War I
In 1916, Burmov commanded the 10th Infantry Division on the Aegean coast. Promoted to Major General in 1917, he took over the 2nd Infantry Division in Macedonia. In July 1918, he became Chief of Staff of the Bulgarian Army.
Post-War Years
After the war, Burmov became a military scholar. Shortly before his death, he was promoted to Lieutenant General. He passed away in Sofia on December 23, 1936.
