National School of AdministrationJean-Claude Cousseran graduated from the prestigious École nationale d'administration (ENA) in 1970, earning the degree of "Diplômé de l'ENA."
Diplomatic Service
Early AssignmentsIn 1970, Cousseran embarked on his diplomatic career, joining the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Second Secretary. Initially assigned to the Ministry of Health and Social Security, he later served in the Department of Economics and Finance within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Overseas Missions
Cousseran held a series of positions in French embassies around the world, including First Secretary at the Embassy in Australia (1973-1975), First Secretary and Second Counselor at the Embassy in Algeria (1975-1979), Second Counselor at the Embassy in Madrid (1983-1984), and First Counselor at the Embassy in Madrid (1984-1987).
Ambassadorships
In 1987, Cousseran was appointed Ambassador to Abu Dhabi. He served in this capacity until 1991, when he became Ambassador to Iran. From 1994 to 1995, he directed the Department of UN Affairs and International Organizations within the French Foreign Ministry.
