Early Life and Career
Diego Poyet is a Uruguayan footballer who currently plays for Rosario Central. He represented Uruguay at every youth level, including the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2005 and the South American U-20 Championship in 2007.
International Debut
In 2008, Poyet received his first call-up to the Uruguay national team. He made his debut for "La Celeste" on May 28, 2008, in a 2-2 draw against Norway. His second international appearance came on October 14, 2008, in a 2-2 draw with Bolivia during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Club Success
In 2009, Poyet helped his club, Nacional, reach the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores. This was the first time a Uruguayan club had achieved such a result in 21 years, since Nacional's own victory in the tournament.
Transfer to England
In the summer of 2009, Poyet joined English club Stoke City. He was loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2010 and later to Barnsley. In 2011/12, he returned to Stoke City from loan.
