Birth and Early Life
Hyunjin was born on March 20, 2000, in Seoul, South Korea. He was a skilled soccer player in his youth, earning the nickname "Messi." Hyunjin's popularity extended to swimming and skiing as well. He attended Songil Elementary School and Seonrae Middle School in Seoul.
Discovery and Traineeship
Hyunjin's journey with JYP Entertainment began unexpectedly. While shopping with his mother, an agency employee approached him and handed him a business card. After discovering the agency's contact information, he auditioned and secured a training spot. He trained for two years.
Pre-Debut and Debut with Stray Kids
In 2017, Hyunjin participated in the reality show "Stray Kids." He successfully made the final lineup of the boy band Stray Kids. The group's pre-debut occurred on January 8, 2018, with the mini-album "Mixtape." Their official debut followed on March 25, 2018, with the mini-album "I Am Not."
Music Career and Show Hosting
In February 2019, Hyunjin became one of the hosts of "Show! Music Core" alongside Chani of SF9 and Mina of Gugudan. He remained in this role for two years before taking a temporary hiatus from the show in February 2021. In 2019, he also appeared in the second season of the drama "Eighteen" with fellow member I.N.
Controversy and Hiatus
On February 22, 2021, Hyunjin was accused of bullying in middle school by an anonymous individual. JYP Entertainment announced on February 27 that Hyunjin would suspend his group activities indefinitely.
Return and Group Activities
In late June 2021, the agency confirmed that Hyunjin would return to group activities in July. On August 23, 2021, Hyunjin and Stray Kids released their second full-length album, "NOEASY." They also released the single "Christmas EveL" on November 29, 2021.
Personal Life
Hyunjin does not have any siblings and is an only child. His family pet is a dog named Kkami.
