Biography of I Drug Moy Grusovik

I Drug Moy Grusovik is a Ukrainian musical collective known for its minimalist lineup, consisting only of rhythm section (drums and bass) and distinctive vocals. The group was formed in 1997 for a performance at a local rock festival, which received a tremendous response. Inspired by their success, Anton Slepakov (vocals), Rostislav Chaban (bass guitar), and Vladimir Busel (drums) decided to continue their collaboration.

In 1998, the group made their first demo recording. The music video for their song "Kolesa" appeared on rotation on Russian and Ukrainian music television in 1999. In 2000, they released their self-titled album and participated in the program "Antropologiya." Music videos for the songs "Urok" and "Otto Sander" were released in 2001 and 2002, respectively.

The group then released an independent album called "Volanchik" and performed a concert called "Ty i Drug Moy Grusovik" for the channel Enter. In 2003, drummer Vladimir Busel left the ensemble, taking the first word in the band's name with him. He was replaced by Vladimir Nestrijenko. The refreshed lineup performed on the channel M1 in the program "tviy format."

In the spring of 2004, drummer Yuri Zhigarev joined the group. Their discography expanded with collaborative singles with the band "Deti Picasso" and the album "Eshche Malenkii." The collective also participated in the TV programs "Kukhnya" and "Otkryty Proekt."

In 2007, the group recorded their most controversial album, "Ischu Druga," which deviated from their usual sound. They incorporated session musicians for the recording, including electric guitars, which caused some reflection among their fans. However, the supporting tour for the album was performed in the classic lineup.

Shortly before the new year of 2008, the group announced their breakup during their performance on the program "Den' Artista." In the same year, they released the split single "Melekh," based on spontaneous studio recordings with the Israeli avant-garde group "Kruzenshtern i Parokhod" at the end of their tour in Israel in 2006.

During the preparation of the lyrics for "Ischu Druga," frontman Anton Slepakov realized that his material had matured and no longer fit into the narrow format. As he had plenty of material, he decided to form a new group called "NeGrusoviki" with Rostislav Chaban and Denis Shvets. They announced a tribute tour, performing old songs.

Their new album, "Ne Ulybautsya," released in 2009, shocked the band's fans with its adult, electronic, and sometimes depressive sound. The group planned a tour in support of the album. During the album's mixing, the band continued to actively perform and recorded the song "Radiostantsii" at their rehearsal base, claiming it was entirely their own work. Despite its provocative lyrics, some FM stations put the hit on rotation.

Throughout their history, I Drug Moy Grusovik has performed numerous concerts, appeared in many festivals, and been featured on various television channels. Their performances at Siget in 2008 were particularly noteworthy. Additionally, the group rarely changes the clubs they perform in from tour to tour.

The style of I Drug Moy Grusovik is difficult to define precisely but encompasses a mixture of funk, post-punk, grunge, and alternative genres.
